New Hip, New Me?

Hello!

I am a 38 year old runner and just had a THR on my left hip on Wednesday, Nov. 5th. I am feeling good in the healing process, but mostly anxious to feel the phantom hip that I have read about.

Previous to the hip issues I was a sub 3hr marathoner and sub 36 minute 10k runner. I don’t know if I can do those speeds or distances again, but I would rather build the health benefits associated with endurance running and require a revision later, than to simply accept limitations (this is probably the hubris of youth).

Mostly posting here to say hello and join the community. I have been recording videos of myself walking each day post surgery, which will be fun to look back on.

Love that this community exists and appreciate all the knowledge I have gained from reading posts.

Welcome to the club, macwep! I’m 5 and 7 months out from both hips being done. I’m finding how frustrating it is to hold back when I want to get back to it. Especially when you hear about others having great and early return to sport. Good luck with your healing, and keep us informed of your progress. Cheers, Gary

Hello Macwhep and I thought I was the youngest on the list when I had my done at 49 but you take the cake!!! The only limitations are what you put on yourself and I would tell you that at 38 years old you perhaps had not hit your longer running distance prime! So have no mental limitations, but certainly and emphatically, listen to your body during your comeback because it will definitely be a comeback to try to get where you were at your best. And if you never Get there, you will have had an amazing journey and will have exceeded many goals!
