Struggling a little…

Well I’m doing ok 10 days post op… but not as well as I hoped for.

I believe I have pushed too hard on my walking and not focusing as much on the economy of my walking Ands some of the Basic movement and mobility exercises … the US medical system has a knack for getting the procedure (and your money) but not so much for the wellness concept following the procedure.  I have had a decent level of soreness in my IT band and outer quad too… I believe as a compensation for my inner quad that was moved for the anterior approach on the surgery.

So I am a little discouraged but taking it day by day and regrouping, strategically and consulting with a couple different physical therapists as to what I am feeling.  The good news is at this point no significant complications from the procedure and no infection.

I will keep the group apprised as to progress.

      Hi WedgeC,

I’m 3 and 5 months post having both hips done (posterior approaches). My doc told me to limit myself to 2k steps per day for the first 2 weeks. That’s hard to do! Being a 71 yo dude, my nighttime bathroom breaks give me 500 steps by the time I arise in the morning! So, I got 2,500 commonly, and paid for it! Don’t rush things. After 2 weeks, I started spinning for 5-10 minutes on a stationary bike, after 4 weeks I returned to the gym for upper body only.

Today I did my first road bike ride, at a blistering 13 mph for 21 miles. I’m mostly a cyclist, but mix in running too, so, ja, took me 3 months postop to do an easy workout.

Listen to your body. I skipped a bunch of days of doing hip flexor workout, as it just didn’t feel right. Give yourself grace, and be patient. I expect you, like me, will figure out when you’re doing too much too soon.

Good luck, and keep us informed of your progress.

      Cheers,
      Gary
