58 years old men and 9 months recovered from THR
I’m active fit individual (165 lbs) and have slowly started back into jogging – about 10 miles a day @ ~10 min pace (mostly on soft gravel surface and with very cushioned shoes).
My surgeon didn’t discourage me from running other than the typical vague concerns about possible effect on hip longevity.
I get that there’s little data on longevity on newer hips. But wondering if anyone here has obtained any data on impact of jogging / running and are there runners here that have been running for a decade + on THR.
Is impact of jogging that much worse than walking (I could be 200 lbs for example).
My train of thought is that my hip will most likely not last my lifetime so if I need a revision anyway – why avoid running. Run (within reason) and shorten the life of the hip some. Of course if running shortens the life of the hip to 10 years and I’m looking at 2 or 3 revisions instead of 1 – then I may say running is not worth it. If it shortens it to 17 years – then I’m good with that…
For now I’m sticking to roughly 10 miles a day of jogging. Any thoughts / advice would be appreciated.
