It’s back! 2nd Annual Global Virtual One-hour Race – had my best longer run yesterday since hip replacement

Good Day eh,

Hey all you apex predators, I had my best longer run since hip replacement yesterday. I went 25K with a bunch of kms under 5-mins-per-km, for an avg of 5:19. I think I could have been around 5:10, but I am wary about my calves still. Very happy.

I have run up to 30K with a group we call TNLW for Tuesday Night Late Workout. It used to be that we would start at 9:30 PM and run 90-minutes to three hours over very hilly terrain, into the forest trails, and through back yards and over farm fences. Now, we are softer with a 6:30 PM start, but we still go to three hours-ish. Now with the social distancing protocols, we do a shotgun start. Everyone puts beer out and we leave our respective domiciles at 6:30 PM. We do a running tour around town to each other’s houses and sample the fare (quickly). So, my 30K run, has had six quick beer stops…..

Several Hip Runners ran in the Global Virtual One-hour Race last year. Well, it is back! Details at link:

Hi Chris – most impressed with your 25k pace, and the amount of running you have done this year! My longest run was 1/2 marathon at 5:55/km pace, which was a bit disappointing as I had set my watch up to expect 2 hours and got 2:04 but it was a hilly course and it was just after New Year so there are excuses…
Pleased to hear the Virtual Hour is back, I shall have another go and hope to not break this year. I was ticking off County Standards (at 1m, 5k, 5m, 6m, 7m, and 10m distances) at 65-69 category Silver level and was able to use my first Hour attempt to claim the 7 mile one, and had a qualifying 5k parkrun already, so I only(!) had to work hard to do the 1,5,6 and 10 miles to get my certificate. Not run a fast mile for years but found I could sneak under 7:28 at my first attempt – 30 years ago that was Lydiard lsd pace… Since then I reprised the mile on my 70th birthday, got 7:17 and Gold standard and now have to have another attempt for this year – Diamond beckons at 6:56 pace! My best marathon was 6:37 pace, in 1989…
Anyway, Gold 70-74 7 mile standard is 59 minutes so with any luck this will fit in perfectly with the Virtual Hour again. Half marathon needs to be 1:55:32 or better – that will be a challenge.

Thanks! I look forward to your performance.

FYI, I did my first Lydiard Hill circuit since hip, last night.

See what sort of stimulus comes from this.

        Cheers

OH Man Christopher. Life events have prevented me from maintaining a good running schedule. I will be sure to get the word out so that the HipRunners represent!
