Uncomfortable sitting in a car

Hi everyone,

I had my right hip replaced on the 16th of November. All went well, pt is going well, I’m walking 4 miles 3-4 days a week, can’t wait to start running again. The only thing that is bothersome to me is riding in a car! I don’t know if it the angle, but I feel like I have restless leg. Sitting on a couch, a recliner and a kitchen chair doesn’t bother me it’s just in the car. Any car for that matter. I didn’t know if anyone else has had this same problem? Thanks for help!

You are walking 4 miles a day 3-4 times a week and you just had a THR a month ago?!?!?!?! That seems really aggressive!
I am almost 9 months post THR of my left hip and still find it hard to sit in a car after a few hours. I get stiff and need to stand every few hours to avoid that feeling. Standing up seems to alleviate that stiffness, but it’s still there.
I am training for a half marathon that is in February. I started running again about 10 weeks after surgery. I’ve done a great job (in my opinion) of listening to my body and not pushing too much, but am SO GLAD TO BE RUNNING AGAIN!! Yesterday I ran 6.2 miles – that was longest run since my surgery. I’m back, baby!
Best to you. Just take a break from the car, stand, stretch and go on with your road trip.

Kudos to you for getting back at it. Your surgery site is still healing. That is most likely the cause of the discomfort. Give it time and it should go away. While we are all different, I can’t imagine you still feeling discomfort at nine months. I started running after 3 months. Give it time and report back after a few months to let us know how you are doing. Stay optimistic!

Thanks for the feedback! I think one of the biggest challenge is Like Tom said, everyone’s different. When you are an active person you expect to be able to jump off that table and get back to life, but sometimes you just need sit back and relax. Thanks for the support!
