March 10th THR

Long story. Retired Army 22 years. Running 5K, 10k, half’s for 30 years. Started triathlons in 07. Many sprints, a few Olympics and 2 half’s. Tore my meniscus for the 2nd time in 2012. Doc suggested I get a High Tibial Osteotomy. Had HTO and a laminectomy done in 2012. Ever since then my right leg/hip kept getting worse and worse. I had to stop running about a year ago because too painful.  I finally went in to my back doctor to see what was going on. He showed me my x-ray from 2012 and now in 2016 and said lets take a look at the hip first (I thought it was my back again). Had an injection and took 75% of my pain away. Hip doctor suggested THR and I agreed.

Had it done about 2 weeks ago and I feel great. Walking normal and can even tie my own shoe again. Back to work after a week. Started slowly in the gym this weekend on stationary bike and elliptical. Taking it slow, but hope to maybe be able to run again. Praise God!

I’m sure you will have fun again just like many of us on this site. Just take it easy at first and listen to your body, rest if you feel sore. Tri’s are great to cross train to minimize the impact on your hip, I’m looking to do a 70.3 next month.
