Looking for training advice

Hi all.  I’m new here and this is my first post.  This seemed like the perfect community for my question.  In the last year, I received two new hips and a left knee (May 2017 through May 2018).  I’m still slow and sore, but otherwise doing pretty well.  I have a goal of walking a 5k later this fall.  To train for this, what distance should I be walking and how often?  I’m not an athlete but have always been active and would really like to complete this 5k.  Any help is greatly appreciated!  –Matt

Hi Matt! Sounds like you’ve been through the ringer, but YAY YOU for getting back to it. I am 3 months post THR of my left hip due to osteoarthritis. I have been a marathon runner and triathlete for a number of years. After 2 months I was given the okay to start slowing doing progession runs. I am now up to 3 miles @ a 9:05 pace That is slow for me, but I will continue to build in distance and in speed. The key is SLOW PROGRESSION. One thing I have noticed is that I DO NOT notice improvements from day to day, but more of week to week. Keep the faith! Follow instructions from your Dr. & PT and know it will come.
      Keep on keepin’ on!
      Robyn
