So I am trying to get my hip replaced in Canada and after a two month wait, I finally called the Orthopedic Surgeon’s office to see if they had determined when I might be able to have my first consult.  They told me that they had not yet received my application from the family physician.  I will skip the rant.  I called my GP yesterday to ask to have it send to the orthopedic surgeon again.  The office of the orthopedic surgeon did mention while I was speaking with them that it will be six to eight months before my consult and approximately 18 months from that date for surgery….if the surgeon decides to take me.  He is not obligated to.

So I looked into surgery in the United States. The costs vary greatly from 30k up to as high as 75k.  I would have no coverage in the U.S. so it would be out of pocket….and therefore not affordable.  Those amounts converted to Canadian are actually about 40% higher.  I could sell my house and live in a tent I suppose J

Anyway, I did some more research and apparently I could get a replacement in Belgium for about 13k to 20k Canadian. Still high, but someone more affordable.  Has anyone had surgery in Belgium or know of anyone who has.  Curious if what I am reading is just hype or if they actually do have very good outcomes.

Thanks

Tim
