Introduction

Just joined HipRunner and wanted to post and say hi. I got my THR (left) March 21, 2018 at 57 years old. Lifelong runner, and itching to get back at it (and swimming and cycling). Looking forward to some great support, and conversation.

Hi Dan. Mine was done 2/9/18. Just saw my doc this morning for final 8 week release . He is also a marathon runner ans insured me again I’ll be fine to run as before. Advised me to wait 3 months before running. Lots of walking now. After 3 months he will do a CT scan to make sure there is good bone adhesion to the implant.

Hi, Dan. I had my THR right a week before you.
Also 57. I’ve always been very active but became a very dedicated runner at age 42.
Had to stop about a year ago due to osteoarthritis and my hip really tanked from there. I am in amazement of my new hip! I am about to graduate from cane but I believe I’ll be taking it easy getting back to it… want to be cautious but feel really optimistic.
I’m thinking running will be back on my list of great things in life…I do hope…
      Good luck!

Dan and Johan. Good luck with your recoveries. You both will be back to running, just listen to the hip and take it day by day. When the hip complains take a rest. Don’t set mileage goals until that hip is fully recovered. For me, that was around 16-18 months.

      Hi Dan,
I’m 55 and have had both hips replaced – left anterior THR in 2015 and right anterior THR in 2016. Recovery was spot on at 3 months each side and pretty much just like new 18 months following. I’ve since completed multiple races, triathlons and ultras. Training for Ironman Boulder in June this year and hoping to be the first dual THR Ironman finisher (probably not but its a cool goal and no idea how to confirm). For me I like to joke that I “tapered” back into running. Small steps, easy days and and slow miles. Your body will tell you what you can do and you’ll know when you can step it up. Congrats and good luck!
