Frequency & Surface Type

Hello fellow hipsters,

I’m curious as to what kind of surfaces you run on and how many times a week.

I’m running on a soft surface at one of our metroparks and run every other day.

I’m eleven months post surgery and am experiencing no issues.

Thanks.

Ken

Had my hip replacement 18 months ago.
Gym workouts for 10 months before I started running again.
I do about 4k 3 times a week on grass surface round local sports campus
and feel great with no issues.
      Avoiding running on hard surfaces.

7 years since right hip replacement. Running 25 to 30 miles a week since then (3 to five times a week). Run on mixed surfaces (concrete, crushed gravel, dirt trails and asphalt). I’m most cautious running downhill. Also, I don’t do any speed work. A lot of down hills and speed work usually results in hip soreness for a couple days. However, I’m pretty tall and not the lightest person (6’3/195 lbs) so I guess that makes sense for the pain. Other than that, hip is great. I think most of us figures out what our hips will allow us to do.

      Hi Spencer,

Post run (maybe even next day) do you feel any discomfort based on surface you ran?

      Thanks,
      Jonathan

      Hey!

I compiled the results from the hip survey, which came from the Hip Runner website:

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! I run on all surfaces. In fact my running group just finished a nice little 19 mile mountain run “The Enchantments” last week. Lots of different terrain. I had my hip replacement in 2012 and am still running strong. Taking a few days off due to a strained lower calf, but I will be back to 7 days a week soon.
