I used to run quite a bit. It was a release for me. It relaxed me. I wouldn’t say I was serious or dedicated. I did NOT track every mile I run like many of the people here. But I did run Napa Valley, Big Sur, Calif International etc and did qualify for the Boston and ran it twice 2013 and 2014. So I do know something. I started having pain in left hip ~2020 and after process of elimination had it replaced 2021. I was in my 60s. Age, Hip dysplasia plus mediocre running mechanics had taken its toll. Then right was replaced in 2022. I spent alot of time rebuilding my running. For me, the biggest help was mobility and flexibility with some strengthening of muscles that help absorb the shock of footstrike. Losing weight can also be helpful. I wasn’t heavy to begin with at 6′ 155. But losing 10 pounds trims knee’s peak load by about 40 pounds. Even more for the hips. Over a 5 mile jog, that’s alot of load reduction. I am just happy to be able to run at all. I honestly am. Perhaps your story is different. I don’t know how old you are or why you needed the replacement. But to maximize your results be realistic and get the best advice you can from people who know.
