First run….

…so..at 11 and a bit weeks post op I found myself at the end of a day when I had done a 5 mile walk at speed with dogs, a swim with aqua-running, and then, because I simply couldn’t cope with the confinement of the house in the evening, a further hour’s tramp through the woods, up and down steep paths…and I thought “what am I waiting for here?” Next day, I set off to do a flattish 5 mile expedition, planning to run maybe 1-2 miles of it …and ran 3! Yes, 3 miles. Whoever would have thought that 3 miles at such a slow speed would feel so epic??!! What a feeling. It got easier and easier as I ran..until maybe the last 1/4 mile…This is a far cry from what I was doing this time last year, indeed right up to the time of my op – but I am not ashamed to say that I felt quite emotional. I was on a high for the rest of the day.. a little stiff in the hip yesterday, soon resolved by a swim and a good walk…and today back where I was. Wow! I will run again – now I have confidence. I know this is early..I know I need to be careful..but I have been fortunate enough not to gain weight in my “off” time, so can still run “light”, and I will listen to this hip. I am just so grateful to be out there again. Thanks to all here on this site – this is the only place I am currently getting any feedback or support, and I am SO grateful!
YAY!!!!!!!
