I know a lot of people ask about what type of operation people had and materials used so I thought I would share my report from my operation. I had a Stryker Accolade TMZF Titanium Stem and a Biolox Delta Ceramic Femoral Head using a Posterolateral Approach.
In just over a week it will be my 5 year anniversary and I’m still getting stronger and faster without much pain. Most of my pain only occurs when racing hard or doing sprint workouts so I have to limit how many of those I do, but normal day to day running is fine. It takes me about 2-3 days to recover from a race but then I’m good to go again. However I did have a setback about 2 1/2 years in but that was because I was pushing to hard, not listening to my body and not cross training. I learnt the hard way after a year long layoff so now I pay a lot more attention. I’m so glad I had my operation otherwise I would have never found running which I love now, my only regret is that I never ran when I was younger or had my operation sooner. If you were a runner and you’re concerned about not being able to run post THR, don’t worry, you can run and still be competitive and very successful (6 new PR’s this year). Wishing everyone speedy recovery. Don’t forget to join our Strava Hip Runners Club to log your runs and see how everyone else is doing.
