Checking back in..

So..not been on here for some time..lots of life events..among other things separation, moving from the family home, being officially of NFA for 8 months…living in a caravan with my 2 dogs…moved into a new home end of March last year..BUT…kept the running going throughout! Still to break that 2 hour half marathon – missed it by 50 seconds last June. Was training hard last year, swimming daily in the sea, running 6 days a week, cycling 3 days a week, fit as the proverbial, for a 61 year old, all in preparation to retire from practice and spend 3 months walking(yes, sorry, walking – carrying camping gear!) and cycling north to south in New Zealand…And then..end of August, diagnosed with throat cancer..
I am here to report that after a brutal 6 months of treatment and recovery, I am running again – and the joy of that is IMMENSE. There is nothing like it.
Interestingly, I am told there is some study going on in Psychology into a possible link between EMDR used for post traumatic stress, and the mental health benefit s of running. I am guessing a lot of us agree with how much good it does our heads?!
The day my walks transposed into the cadence of a run, the smile on my face just grew so much wider – and my hip (replaced nearly 5 years ago) is fine, despite the loss of strength and muscle with the enforced rest. Who says you can’t run after a hip replacement?! Keep up the good work , everyone. Good luck with your marathons …don’t think my current running has me quite ready for it this year…! Kate

Hi Kate, great to hear from you again. So sorry about your cancer but glad you’ve kicked it into touch and back running again. I agree there’s nothing better than getting out and forgetting about everything and thinking about what’s possible. Your walking journey sounds incredible and I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Keep us informed of your progress. Dave.
