In my introduction I posted my plans to train for and complete my first Half Ironman in 2015. On August 16 I finished 70.3 miles in 7 hrs and 32 min at the Lake Stevens Half Ironman Triathlon. I had an amazing race and ran the complete 13.1 miles (12 min/mi pace) after 56 miles on a hilly bike course and a 1.2 mile swim. My THR was in January 2010 and I waited a very long time to resume running (2014). If I had known then what I know now I would have gotten back to it in 2011 – hindsight being 20/20. With much credit to the Running with a Hip Replacement book, I was able to change my stride to avoid the heel strike. I credit this change to being able to run completely pain and injury free.
This group has been a huge source of inspiration and information for me. When I first had my THR no one wanted to talk about the possibility of running at all. I finally saw a Dr. who said, “What are you saving it for?” As long as it doesn’t cause you any pain, go for it.” That was all I needed!
I didn’t think this day was going to happen for me so I am so happy and already planning to do a full Ironman in August 2016
