Hip Brother Tom
KeymasterMatt, you’ve got the right attitude. I’ll bet you’ll be able to do your bike ride in February with no problem. Less IS more at this point. Your hip is your guide as you progress. As long as you listen to your body and slow down when it tells you to, you’re going to be fine. Congrats on the new hip. And by the way 7:13 pace for a half marathon is pretty fantastic.

MemberThanks Tom, Not taking a lot of meds is keeping me in check, a bit of pain helps me remember how much surgery I just went through. As far as the pace, thanks, 7:13 is a strange PB, but oddly enough I ran that exact pace three times in the past 5 – 6 years. I will keep to your advice “Less IS more”. Thanks Matt

ParticipantMatt, everyone’s recovery is different, just as our ability to run far/fast is. It’s good to set goals but you need to listen to your body and adjust the goals based on how you feel. Take your time for the first 6 months to a year and you’ll be fine. BTW, I’ve been doing triathlons every weekend for the past 3.5 years and run more miles than one should with a hip replacement. I’ve also had my fair share of injuries so I know that it’s important to slow down and rest when your body tells you to. Good luck, Dave.
