Mark, With questions

Hi Folks,

I’m  a one time ultra runner who is hopeful that I can return to the sport.  I completed several long ultras in 2014 but only a few in 2015 before I decided it was best to stop and pursue  and recover from what was at the root of my near constant muscle fatigue and soreness in one leg.  It all happened rather suddenly when I went out for what should have been a simple routine 8 mile run one day early last year and had to stop to stretch at least 6 times just to get home!  Apart from decreased range of motion, my symptoms were entirely muscular.  I had no real pain from the joint itself and did not really suspect any problem there until I saw an X-ray.  That was a stunning moment to say the least.  I have an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon next week and am appropriately terrified.

I have two questions…  Is it common for people to only experience muscular stress (and not joint pain) when they clearly have developing OA in a hip?

And…, what are the questions you wish you had asked of your surgeon before the big day?

I’m appropriately terrified, but very eager to (with luck and proper recovery) get back to running and the events I was able to enjoy so much just a year ago.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and tips.  Thank you also to those who have taken the time to post about their experiences during recovery and their return to running!!!
