Gayle – Comtemplating Full Hip Replacement vs. Resurfacing

I’m a 47 year old male who has been active as a runner for the past 20+ years.

I even got involved with smaller scale on-road and off-road triathlons before my left hip became chronically sore to the point that I have basically stopped running as of earlier this summer.

My primary goal is to be pain-free so that I can have a normal daily life (play with kids, do yard-work, basic day-today activities).

But if I could return to some level of jogging, running, biking, etc…, that would be a huge bonus.  (I’m much happier when I can run 3-4 days a week…even if its at a slower pace).

I’m looking for REAL stories / feedback to find out if it’s realistic to return to these activities via FHP or Resurfacing.

I welcome all response and feedback!

I am 48 and also contemplating THR vs resurfacing. I’ve been doing research and reading up on any information I can find. I like the idea of resurfacing over THR because it preserves more bone, and allows one to retain more flexibility. But the metal on metal and chance of metal ions entering the blood steam and causing heath issues concerns me. What did you end up deciding on?
