Steady three to five miler, 5-6x week for thirty years. Have always crosstrained, adding biking and swimming. Treadmill in winter if its bad out. Over time, due to knee issues, and then hip, I have curtailed all exercise other than "running' (joging or shuffling up and down hills for a mile and a half, because every other exercise feels like it is going to blow a knee or an achilles, or IT band. Have seen a lot of practitioners for all kinds of body work, nutrition. Terrified of losing ability to run due to ancillary issues that surgery might exacerbate--all kinds of tendon, soft tissue things, knee arthritis and cartilage lesions, etc.
