Aside from being a part owner of my logistics company, I've been doing triathlons for the past 17 years. I'm a short distance guy, do mostly sprints and Olympic distance. Guess I like my pain short but intense! About a year ago, I noticed my right groin area( thought it was a hip flexor) began to give me issues. I saw an FMS coach who worked on some muscle imbalances and worked on my stride. Got a bit better but by June of 2016, hip hurt all the time and also developed pain in glut. Still didn't dawn on me that it was hip related. I finally decided to get an x-ray to see if maybe I had a pinched nerve. I do have a messed up lower lumbar. Had the X-ray this past June and was diagnosed with arthritic degenerative hip. Had cysts and also bone spur. Most of the cartridge was gone. So I did my homework and found this web site which made me feel really more positive about my prognosis. I had pretty much been under the impression that once you surrender to a hip replacement, your running days were over. Was so glad to hear of all the people who are running after their replacements. I learned about the differences in hip replacement via the internet and decided the Anterior approach made the most sense to me. I did interview a Ortho doctor who tried to sway me to Posterior but after my swim coach had her hip replaced by Anterior approach and how quickly she recovered, I decided that was the way to go. Like the other gentleman from PA, I too decided to get in the best shape possible prior to my surgery which I scheduled for Dec 1, 2016. I concentrated on a lot of exercises that focused on light weights but high repetitions. The focus was on quad, glutes and balance exercises. I also dropped weight from 178 to 172 at surgery time and have in the past two weeks post op dropped to 164. I also got a recommendation from one of the bloggers on this site to get Alistair McAlpine's book on "How to Run with a Hip Replacment',, again this book has given me confidence and the joy of knowing that I should be able to return to running.
