Didn't consider my self a runner but started running marathons at 28. Ran 1-3 per year for awhile and qualified for Boston when I turned 40. Decided to run 50 marathons before I turned 50. Notice some hip and groin pain about 5 years ago but run through it. It got really bad last year but I was so close to meeting my goal! I finally went to the doctor to get a Cortisone shot when I told me that there was a notch in my femur tearing away my cartilage and told me not to run. Of course I ran 3 marathons in a 2 months including my 50th 5 days before my 50th birthday. Then I saw a specialist to get that notch shaved off. Except he told me that my cartilage was already too far gone. I've waited 9 months before I scheduled surgery. I've ridden a bike instead of running and gone gobs of hip exercises in hope to minimize my recovery. Really nervous now since my surgery is next week. I really want to run again without pain. Crossing my fingers that this is the best move.
