I have been running and biking for the last 10 years after losing 80 lbs due to inactivity and just eating too much. In the winter of 2014-15, I started to feel a lot of pain in my right hip after running. Over time, it got to be too painful and I had to quit. My last event was a duathlon in April of 2014. I almost quit during the second run the pain was getting so bad. I did finish, but could not tie my shoes for several days afterward. Through 2014, I found I was bone on bone in my right hip. A total hip replacement was recommended. Only by chance, I found a surgeon who did the anterior method. She was confident I would do well with the surgery, being in good health and fairly fit. Now, about 8 weeks post surgery, I am doing well. I am walking normally, getting a few bike rides in (weather permitting, I got out today even with it being 34° out) and doing some spinning on weekedays. I am anxious to get back running. See there are others out there having THR and now running is a great find. All the info I have seen so far says running should not be done. At my six week post surgery check, my surgeon did say I could run again. That was encouraging. Maybe no marathons, but shorter distances would be great.
