Alice- I was 32 when I had my first hip replaced and 38 when I had my other hip replaced. It changed my life completely. I have been able to be as active as I want to be. I play volleyball, strength train, Dance class, yoga, cross fit and kickboxing without any pain and only minimal flexibility issues. I enjoy running but I try to limit my runs to once a week only 4-5 miles at a time and have not participated in any marathons out of concern that it may cause too much wear and tear on my hips, but I really love running most of all. There is nothing like that runners high and there is no swimmers high or bikers high last I checked. I’m coming on 10 years since my 1st hip was replaced. I was wondering if anyone out there has underwent a revision yet or had their cup replaced due to excessive wear and tear from running?… (Click Here to View Full Post and Comments)

I was run over by a motorcycle at age 7 and developed avascular necrosis(AVN) dead bone due to the trauma. By age 28 I was in severe pain and in need of a THR. All the Orthopedic surgeons said I was too young and to wait as long as possible. I finally had the surgery at age 32 after being in pain for nearly 6 years. Having the surgery was life changing and made me wish that I had not waited so long. About 3-4 yrs later I developed the same bad pain in my other hip and found out I had severe degenerative OA likely caused by limping for so many years +mild congenital hip dysplasia. I had the second one done right away at age 38 and now I am perfect. Just had my 10 year anniversary on my right hip. I have been able to continue on with my usual workout routine including kickboxing, crossfit, muay thuy, Brazilian JiuJuitsu, weight lifting, Yoga, spinning, Aerial silks, pole dancing and running. I love running but I feel guilty when I do run so I try to limit my runs to once a week, either sprints on the treadmill or outdoor hill repeats but never greater than 4-5 miles. Those long steady state cardio workouts are not the best methods for sculpting a lean physique as you end up sacrificing too much lean muscle mass. I want to know if there is anyone on this site that has already had a revision or a cup wear out from excessive running?
