1 Month Post Op

Just had my 1 month post op check up and everything looks good. Doc cleared me to resume swimming as incision has healed completely. We talked about a realistic time frame for me to resume some running. He wants to wait to see bone growth into the implant to ensure it is good and stable. Anyone else trying to move that window up a bit? I’m 63 so not a spring chicken, but would like to at least think I could get a sprint distance triathlon in late summer?

Everyone heals a little bit differently. I got the go ahead at 7 weeks. That said, you need to be careful. If you notice yourself limping, STOP. You will either slow your progression by injuring the repairing hip muscles or you’ll hurt something else from overcompensating. You’ll be good to go by late summer. I ran a half marathon less than 6 months after my replacement. Not screaming fast, but I was able to finish without limping or walking.

I agree with Rusty, you should be good for a sprint distance in the summer but it’s important to listen to your body and adjust goals if necessary. Take time to cross train and also strength train to improve your form. Look to get a foam roller (TriggerPoint) and that will help.

Thanks for that input. I will be mindful of listening to my hip as I continue to rehab. Congrats Rusty on your marathon, that is awesome.
